SANTA MONICA—I’ve just finished rock climbing at Rockreation in Santa Monica. My forearms are bulging, my biceps pulsing, and my shirt drenched. I know I will be extremely sore in the morning, but I can’t wait to climb again! If pumping iron at the gym seems like a monotonous way to get into shape, try rock climbing! Within Rockreation’s gym in Santa Monica is 9000 square feet of climbers paradise with lots to do for all climbing abilities. There is a large bouldering area where you can climb without a harness or rope, lots of top rope routes, and a lead climbing area with an arch that has routes up to 65 feet in length.

Rockreation also has many different and fun classes including its Fight Gravity Series of classes. For $99 climbers get three two hour classes and a one-month membership. These three classes introduce beginner climbing techniques. Rockreation also offers an Advanced Movement class that teaches techniques to conquer steeper terrain, a lead climbing class, as well as private lessons. Don’t worry about equipment if you are new to rock climbing, as Rockreation offers rentals for all the equipment you need to climb. Also, before climbing you will be required to sign a waiver.
