Texas State Favors Santa Monica Players

SANTA MONICATwo freshman football players, offensive lineman Maurquice Shakir and defensive back Qujuan Floyd have both been picked up by Texas State for the 2014 season.

Floyd was awarded the All-American honors after his great performance, which included seven interceptions and 49 tackles  last year. He also was named the American Pacific Conference Defensive Player of the Year.

Shakir, 6 feet 4 inches, 285 lbs., graduated from Palisades High and blocked for one of the most prolific offenses in school history.

Santa Monica College won the American Pacific Conference for the second consecutive season last year and finished 9-2.

Texas State went 4-8 last season. Head coach Dennis Franichione, just signed a new contract for next season. He previously coached Texas A&M for five seasons, and Alabama for two seasons.
