SANTA MONICA
—A veteran’s simple wish was granted thanks to the Southern California chapter of Twilight Wish Foundation.

Robert Smillie, a 73-year-old disabled Army veteran with a prosthetic leg, had his wish for new carpeting granted by the Santa Monica based chapter of the Twilight Wish Foundation.

Smillie spends most of his time in his home and because the carpeting inside the home was worn and had many holes, Carol, Smillie’s wife, was afraid he would fall and hurt himself. Carol nominated her husband for the wish.

His wish was granted on Wednesday, July 24, after the staff of Sierra Hall at the University of Nevada in Reno raised the money to grant his wish. After receiving the new carpet, Carol Smillie said that her and her husband were very thankful.

"Your kindness cannot be expressed in words", said Carol. "When you spend 90 percent of your time in your home, having new carpet is very special."

Twilight Wish Foundation is a non-profit charitable organization that grants wishes to seniors over the age of 68 and have an income of less than 200 percent of poverty level annually or are permanent residents of a nursing facility. The organization has granted over 1,927 seniors’ wishes. For more information on the Twilight Wish Foundation visit www.twilightwish.org.
