SANTA MONICA—Twin brothers Anthony and Conrad Sowash, 28, have been charged for allegedly stabbing a man with a knife near the 3000 block of Santa Monica Boulevard on Thursday, July 4. Witnesses have reported to authorities that there was a fight prior to the stabbing.

Police officers found the victim sitting on a curb near Busby’s West Sports Bar, tending to his wounds with his shirt to apply pressure. The police brought paramedics to the scene, and the victim was also interviewed. According to the victim, he was walking towards the bar when he came across two men and two women standing next to a silver vehicle.

One of the women asked for a cigarette, which he provided. At that time, one of the brothers allegedly asked the victim and his friends where they were from, to which the victim responded by saying they lived near the San Fernando Valley.

The victim claims his response to the question resulted in one of the brothers punching him in the face, while the other pulled out a knife that was approximately four to six inches long.

The victim and his group began running, according to authorities. The suspects chased the alleged victim across Santa Monica Boulevard, and Anthony Sowash slashed the man’s neck while he was chasing the victim. The victim suffered a second, brutal slash to the neck as he turned towards Anthony in an attempt to defend himself.

Police detained the two women who were also involved in the incident, as witnesses claimed that they attempted to flee the scene of the crime by driving off in their car. Witnesses also reported that the women allegedly struck the man with a chain. Police have identified the women as Cynthia Gallardo, 20, and Jazmine Fattouh, 22, of Culver City.

Canyon News contacted Sgt. Richard Lewis regarding information about the suspects’ charges and current bail. Suspect one, Anthony, has been charged with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, with a bail amount of $1 million, according to Sgt. Lewish. Suspect two, Conrad, has been charged with a charge of misdemeanor and battery, with a bail of $1000. The Sowash brothers are charged with attempted murder and conspiracy to commit a crime. Gallardo and Fattouh have also been charged for assault and battery and their bail has been set at $20,000 each. The women were released on their own recognizance, but they are expected back in court on July 19, indicated the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The victim was transported to a local trauma centre and is expected to recover, despite his injuries.
