SANTA MONICA—The Santa Monica Public Library will be hosting the Santa Monica Rep theatre company for a theatrical reading of the play "Wit."
"Wit" is the 1999 Pulitzer Prize winner for drama. It is a one-act play by playwright Margaret Edson. It deals with a professor of English’s reflection on her life after learning that she has ovarian cancer. It did not originally have a Broadway production, but in 2012 the Broadway play was nominated for Best Revival of a Play and Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play. In addition, the play was adapted by Mike Nichols into a television film and it starred Emma Thompson.
The Santa Monica Rep theatre company debuted in 2010 and has been doing monthly readings ever since. The company has had a large growth in audience and has had many sold out readings. In addition to "Wit," the theatre company has had a staged reading of "The Tempest," "the Complete Works of William Shakespeare," "Abridged" and "Proof."
The reading is, as always, free and open to the public with seating being first come, first serve. There will be no break in the play since it is only one act and therefore there will be no late seating.
