The final design for the wall was approved by the City Council in December 2013. The purpose of the wall is to honor anyone who served in one of America’s military branches and died while in active duty during a war, in combat, or during another foreign conflict. The city’s goal is to install the monument in time for Memorial Day on May 26.

To be included in the wall, the honoree must be someone who was born in or lived in Santa Monica, had a Santa Monica address when they died in service or chose to be interred in Santa Monica. So far, the city has collected the names of over 90 people and is seeking more.
