SANTA MONICA—You don’t have to be a health nut to enjoy some yoga with therapist Bea Ammidown on Saturday, May 4.

This is no ordinary event where it seems like a average yoga course. The event is titled after the instructional film, titled “Yoga For You: Into Special Needs Yoga,” and will take place in the main library and be available for all ages.

Therapist Ammidown will present a special screening of the film, which showcases individuals suffering from ALS, MS, fibromyalgia or cerebral palsy partaking in yoga excercises. The film and instruction course were designated to provide therapy for these individuals through practices such as breathing exercises and the use of home props for comfort and security.

The film will be shown simultaneously with Ammidon demonstrating the various techniques of yoga. Audience members are allowed to participate alongside the tutorial or choose to watch film without engaging in any activity.

The city’s website describes Ammidown as: “A Yoga practitioner for 40 plus years, Bea Ammidown has taught internationally since 1986. She has developed a safe and empowering program that applies the practice of Yoga and meditation as tools for rehabilitation from injury, surgery and chronic pain. She has taught workshops and classes for Children’s Hospital LA, Kaiser Permanente, YMCAs, Los Angeles Caregiver Resource Center, Mental Health Clinics, The YogAbility Institute, UCLArts and Healing & AARP.”

The event is free and open to all ages and will take place in the multipurpose room of the public library from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
