SHERMAN OAKS—An unattended backpack in a Chase bank branch in Sherman Oaks on Monday, June 25 caused havoc as the Los Angeles Police Department called in a bomb squad at 3:15 p.m.

The police evacuated the bank at 13949 Ventura Boulevard as well as nearby businesses such as McDonald's and the entire 13900 block of Ventura Boulevard. Employees of McDonald's and Chase sat and stood in an area of shade for more than two hours as the package was examined by a bomb squad.

After two hours, it was discovered that there was no threat and the backpack only contained personal items. Police re-opened the street before 6 p.m.
