Charlie Sheen Joins 'Anger Management'

SHERMAN OAKS—Charlie Sheen has not been making a lot of headlines lately, but it may be because behind the scenes he’s been shopping a new series called “Anger Management” to networks, cable stations and online venues. So far no television network has agreed to air his series, but there is no doubt that Sheen has put CBS’s “Two and a Half Men” behind him and has moved on professionally.
Sheen may have had no choice since Warner Bros. Studios, which produces the show, hired actor Ashton Kutcher to replace Sheen on the hit sitcom, and Sheen’s also filed suit against Chuck Lorre, creator and producer of “Two and a Half Men” claiming wrongful termination. It seemed to entertainment insiders that there was very little chance the two men could come together after such a contentious relationship played itself out in the media over the past year, and Sheen’s hoping to find a network to air his latest creation.
“Anger Management” is based on the 2003 film of the same name that starred Adam Sandler in the lead role opposite Jack Nicholson. Sheen confirmed to the media on Monday that this series is his next project as soon as he is able to find a network or cable channel that will pick up his show. “I chose ‘Anger Management’ because, while it might be a big stretch for me to play a guy with serious anger management issues, I think it’s a great concept,” Sheen said.
After years of battles with alcohol and drugs, it was Sheen’s public battle with Lorre that was the reason given for his dismissal from television’s number one sitcom, where Charlie was the current highest paid TV star in March when the show halted production and suggested Sheen seek treatment for issues surrounding his dismissal. Sheen fought back, making regular appearances on NBC’s “Today Show,” Radar Online and famously joined Twitter, where is still one of the most popular stars followed by fans today.
“Two and a Half Men” returns without Charlie Sheen on Friday, September 16 on CBS.
