SHERMAN OAKS—November has seen a rise in violent crime, according to the Sherman Oaks Police Department, especially between November 8 to 14. The week included four crimes per 10,000 residents, a 250 percent increase in violent crime from the past three months, where crime remained low with around 1.5 weekly violent crimes per 10,000 residents.
The police department is investigating the cause of the recent spike. “Crime is cyclical,” an LAPD officer informed Canyon News. There appears to be an increase in burglaries south of Ventura Boulevard. “Though there has been an increase in burglaries south of Ventura Boulevard, the LAPD is still investigating if the crimes are connected,” another police officer told Canyon News.
Property crime also is on the rise, with almost 27 occurrences a week in some areas of Sherman Oaks. “There tends to be a spike in property crime holiday season,” LAPD Officer Rosario Herrera told Canyon News. “The department tries to hold news conferences to make the public aware,” she added.
