SHERMAN OAKS—Traffic was slow on Sepulveda Boulevard the morning of Monday, February 10 due to an excavator that fell overnight on the 405 Freeway Project near the Sherman Oaks area.

An excavator was clearing and grubbing work on Sunday night while on the slope north of Mountaingate Drive where a retaining wall was being built. The excavator fell down the slope onto Sepulveda Boulevard.
No drivers were on the road when the equipment fell over since that section of Sepulveda has been closed during the nighttime since Friday for construction work.
Workers wanted to use a crane to pick up the excavator, however, decided to used another excavator on site and used a loader to push the fallen equipment back up. Reports indicate there were no injuries from the incident.
Metro was not able to reopen that section of the road as well as have the excavator get back to work until 7:40 a.m. SigAlert indicated that the southbound 405 freeway lanes that left the San Fernando Valley were facing gridlock even at 10 a.m.
Sepulveda Boulevard has been closed on and off between Skirball Center Drive and Mountaingate Drive as roads are being widened and a new Southbound Skirball ramp is put in place.
