SHERMAN OAKS—As part of an effort to expand fitness accessibility, four new components of fitness equipment were debuted at Van Nuys-Sherman Oaks Park on July 18, by Los Angeles City Councilmember Tom LaBonge and the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks.

The arrival of the new pieces demonstrates the continuation of the planned 15 pieces of fitness equipment at the 65.18 acre recreational park; the first installment of the robust arrangement occurred in January 2013. An estimated $90,000 investment is being committed to the park. An anonymous donor contributed about half of the amount, while the Los Angeles Park Foundation and LaBonge's office provided the funds necessary for the other half.
According to the councilmember's website, the recent increasing popularity of adult fitness “playgrounds” prolongs the lifetime of the city's public parks system, and the councilmember expects the equipment to attract new park users as well as those active in their park recreation.
“I have always believed in the powerful connection between parks and fitness. Our city has a great number of incredible parks, and this new adult fitness equipment is a powerful reminder to use them,” councilmember LaBonge told Canyon News.

14201 Huston Street in Sherman Oaks. Two new soccer fields with artificial turf are planned for the park in the future.
