SHERMAN OAKS—Three-time NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas, 32, was arrested on Thursday, June 27 for possession of illegal fireworks. The California Highway Patrol initially pulled Arenas over around 2:20 am for driving 80 mph without a license in a 65 mph zone.

Upon apprehending the NBA star for speeding, CHP officers discovered boxes of illegal fireworks on the passenger seat and back of the pickup truck. Arenas was arrested and booked for possession of illegal fireworks. He was released shortly after posting bail.

The Los Angles Police Department Bomb Squad was called in to handle the removal of the fireworks. According to TMZ, the LAPD found up to 100 pounds of fireworks in Arenas' possession.

Arenas made headlines in 2010 when he was reprimanded for gun possession after he revealed a loaded pistol in his Washington Wizards locker room. He was suspended from the team shortly thereafter.

The NBA player last played for the Memphis Grizzlies during the 2011-2012 seasons.
