LAPD Open Fire During Robbery Chase

SHERMAN OAKS—A suspected shoplifter was shot at by police on Tuesday, October 30 in the parking lot of a Trader Joe's in Sherman Oaks. The incident occurred at 6:30 p.m. after a man stole a case of wine.

The officers were in the area prior to the incident due to an unrelated investigation on a traffic accident. The officers suspected a robbery took place when a man was being chased by two store employees in the parking lot at Hazeltine Avenue and Riverside Drive.

Police have stated that the suspect attempted to run over two patrol officers with his van to which the officers responded with by opening gunfire. It is unknown whether or not the suspect was wounded as he fled the scene. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, neither officer was injured.
