SHERMAN OAKS—The Help Group’s “Kids Like Me” is now enrolling in summer camps with a “safe and enriching atmosphere” for children with Aspergers, Autism and other social disorders.

The “Kids Like Me” summer camps are specifically designed to benefit and fit the needs of children with autism and developmental challenges.  Highly trained therapists and counselors are on site to ensure that social skill building practices are integrated into the art, nature, drama, music, sensory, water games, contests and field trips that the children take part in.

Five camps are available to choose from.  They offer Village Glen Day Camp (ages 3- 13), which is a specialized social skills camp for children with Aspergers, Autism or social challenges, Camp Sunshine (ages 3- 21), which is developed for children with moderate or severe autism, Camp Discovery (ages 4- 13), a one week camp that provides traditional outdoor summer activities for children with moderate special needs, Teens On the Go (ages 13- 18) that attends to teens with Aspergers and high functioning Autism, and Teens on the Go Travel Camps (ages 13-18), which features a 6-day and 5-night stay for teens challenged with Aspergers and high functioning Autism. At each camp, therapists, counselors and staff are around 24/7 to attend to any child in need.

A mother whose child attended “Kids Like Me” stated, “The staff at the “Kids Like Me” Summer Camp, went out of their way to treat my daughter and I with caring and respect.  My daughter has such a great time during the activities; she doesn’t even notice she’s expanding her social skills!”

The summer camp includes fun social functions for the children to interact with one another such as: rock band, robotics, gaming club, character drawing anime, kids in the kitchen, hip-hop dance and more.

Other programs under The Help Group include: UCA Neuropsychology Program, Advance LA Transitioning Teens & Young Adults, After School Weekend Programs, Vocational Services, Mental Health & Clinical Programs, Paws and Pals and Autism Assessment and Developmental Evaluation.

Each camp “strives to developmentally and chronologically match children across the spectrum to ensure an appropriate peer group for learning and fun,” as stated on the Kids Like Me LA website.
