Panera Bread Offers Free Bread
Posted by Camille Sarabia on May 30, 2013 - 10:18:29 AM

SHERMAN OAKS—On Tuesday, May 28, marked the opening of a Panera Bread chain franchise along Ventura Boulevard by giving the first 100 guests a gift certificate for free bread for the whole year.

Sarah Nazarian Phelps, who helped organize the event, spoke about the excitement.  Sherman Oaks proves to be a great new location as Phelps describes the restaurant as getting, “great community visits.”  The first 100 guests in line were given a certificate to receive on a loaf of bread for each month of the year.  It’s Panera Bread’s way of giving back to the faithful community.

Panera Bread prides itself in having hand-crafted artesian-bread made by professional bakers on site and they also serve anti-biotic free chicken.  According to Panera Bread, “Panera’s bakery-cafe selection offers flavorful, wholesome offerings such as sandwiches, hand tossed salads, soups served in bread bowls, bagels and pastries. The menu includes a variety of year-round favorites to complement seasonal items and breads baked fresh daily in each bakery-cafe by skilled bakers.”

Jacob Bustos, the district manager in Panera Bread’s new location deemed the event as a “success.”  When speaking with Canyon News he said, “We certainly depleted the first 100 certificates.  Overall we had a great turn out.”

The restaurant is located in the village of Sherman Oaks it gets “lots of business,” says Bustos.  “There are many businesses around that can just walk into the café,” he says, “It limits having to drive somewhere to eat and we get a lot of foot-traffic.”

Prior to the opening, the Sherman Oaks Panera Bread hired provided 45 more jobs.  “We started hiring about a month ago,” says Bustos.  “In this economy it’s great to be able to provide more jobs.”

With a close location to businesses, bakers on site and free wireless Internet, the Sherman Oaks Panera Bread is off to a good start.

Overall, Bustos stated, “We are very excited to be in the Sherman Oaks area.  I think they needed someone like us.”

Jun 24, 2013 will feature the official ribbon cutting ceremony for the Sherman Oaks Panera Bread location. Regular store hours are Monday-Thursday, 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday-Saturday, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sundays 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. The phone number is 818-905-6060.
