SHERMAN OAKS—Sound aficionados are in for a treat as Arclight Sherman Oaks is one of 15 theatres showing “Taken 2” in Dolby’s Atmos sound system.
Multiple reports indicate the follow-up to the 2008 action hit, which opened in Southern California on Friday, October 5, will also be offered at AMC Ontario Mills 30 in Ontario. The sequel sees the return of “Taken” stars Liam Neeson, Maggie Grace and Famke Janssen.
Other theatres in North America offering the movie with Atmos are: AMC Aventura 24, Aventura, Fla.; AMC Barrywoods 24, Kansas City; AMC Downtown Disney 24, Lake Buena Vista, Fla.; AMC Empire 25, New York; AMC Metreon 16, San Francisco; Brenden Theatres at the Palms, Las Vegas; Cinemark Century at Pacific Commons, Fremont, Calif.; Cinemark West Plano and XD, Plano, Texas; Cinetopia Vancouver Mall 23, Vancouver, Wash.; ShowPlace ICON at Roosevelt Collection, Chicago; and Cineplex SilverCity Yonge-Eglinton Cinemas, Toronto.
China also will showcase the movie at its Shanghai Film Art Center in Shanghai and at Lumiere Pavilions Chengdu Raffles City Cinema in Chengdu.
20th Century Fox, which distributes “Taken 2,” also plans to release “Chasing Mavericks” in Atmos. The film, which stars Gerard Butler and Elisabeth Shue, is scheduled for release on October 26.
“Taken 2” will not be the first film released in Dolby Atmos as Disney/Pixar’s Brave was the first film to be mixed using the new system. When the film premiered in the spring, it was offered at the newly renamed Dolby Theatre, home of the Oscars.
