STUDIO CITY—Car break-ins and thefts have continued to increase in Studio City, especially in the Silver Triangle area and near Fryman Canyon Park, over the last few years. At least 60 to 70 vehicles are broken into or damaged every month in Studio City.

Senior Lead Officer, Mike Lewis, discussed these break-ins during a recent meeting with Studio City residents. Lewis says that he hasn’t seen this many car-related crimes since almost ten years ago and attributes the main cause of the sudden rise in vehicle break-ins and thefts to the fact that at least 35,000 people were released from prison in the last couple of years due to budget cuts. With more criminals on the streets, Lewis says, there has been an increase in crime on the streets, especially in the Studio City area.

Police officials ask residents that if they see anything suspicious in their area to contact law enforcement officials immediately. Police officers discourage residents from taking matters into their own hands for their own safety and instead urge them to contact police if they see anything suspicious in their neighborhoods.
