STUDIO CITY—A BMW sedan hit two trees and crashed into a Studio City pizzeria after the driver lost control on Sunday, August 9. Three people were killed, including the driver, and a fire was ignited.
The crash occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m. in the 11400 block of Ventura Boulevard near Tujunga Avenue. The car severed a gas line causing the car and Reno's Pizzeria to burst into flames.
A total of 52 firefighters from the Los Angeles Fire Department arrived at the scene and took 23 minutes to extinguish the fire. The three victims were two men and a woman, all of which were in their 20s. The man behind the wheel was identified as Pasha Voldokovich and his passengers were Jason Shmelnik and Ekatrina Uspshanaya.
The victims were going home from a 21st birthday party at the nearby Romanov Restaurant to an after party at the Voldokovich's home. Friends of the victims stated that he had been drinking before he got behind the wheel.
It was reported that the two male victims were of Russian descent and lived in the Los Angeles area. The female victim was also of Russian descent but was visiting from New York for the birthday celebration.
All three victims were pronounced dead at the scene and the coroner had to use the Jaws of Life to get to the bodies and a hazmat crew was called in to clean up the area.
