STUDIO CITY—Mayor Eric Garcetti appointed Councilman Paul Krekorian to the Transit Authority on Thursday, July 18.
“Honored to be chosen by Mayor Garcetti to serve on MTAs Board as we pursue a cost effective & seamless public transportation system,” Krekorian tweeted on Thursday.
As the San Fernando Valley’s Council of Government chairman, Krekorian said his top priorities include transportation and economic development, according to his Twitter. Krekorian joins two other nominations, including Westside Councilman Mike Bonin and Jackie Dupont-Walker, head of the West Adams-area Ward Economic Development Corporation.
The Transit board, which has 13 members, is in charge of funding and contracting for major regional transportation projects in the Los Angeles area. There are representatives from other cities, as well as all members on the county Board of Supervisors.
The appointments were made for major projects that are either underway or are about to begin in Los Angeles. Those projects include: improvements to the 405 Freeway in the Sepulveda Pass, extending the east-west Expo Line and the Crenshaw/LAX Transit Corridor.
