Local Screenwriter To Work With Stan Lee
Posted by Damian Kelly on Nov 14, 2011 - 11:26:50 PM

STUDIO CITY—Local resident and screenwriter Heather Kenealy is set to work with Marvel Comics writer and publisher Stan Lee after recently being selected as a winner of MTV Geek’s The Seekers contest. Kenealy will serve as a writer and Stephen Green from Savannah, Ga. will serve as an artist as they work directly with Lee to create The Seekers, a new comic book.

Lee announced the two winners during MTV Geek’s panel at New York's Comic Con, thus completing a contest that was announced in August at San Diego’s Comic Con that asked would-be scribes and illustrators to submit a synopsis, treatment and sketches for the new comic book. Kenealy is currently a screenwriter for "DevaShard," a movie project in development for Vanquish Motion Pictures. She's also working on a second screenplay based on a popular video game. In addition, Kenealy has a short tale, The Story of Late featured in Leap Books' Spirited, an anthology of 13 ghostly tales with all proceeds going to nonprofit 826 National to promote literacy.

According to MTV Geek’s website, writing entries were judged on three merits: grammar, script and treatment. Other criteria included whether the writer had skills and the right vision to bring Lee’s story to life. The several hundred entries were then narrowed down to the top 20 semifinalists and readers were asked to vote for the top writing submissions. Those receiving the most votes were forwarded on to Lee, who chose the winner.

Not as many submissions were received for artists, so readers didn’t get to vote. Those illustrated entries that met the contest requirements were evaluated directly by Lee and the staff of MTV Geek. A winner was then chosen from those entries.
