Posted by Melissa Simon on Oct 14, 2013 - 2:31:25 PM

STUDIO CITY—Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) arrested a man on Thursday, October 10, for allegedly groping a girl three times on a Van Nuys Metro bus.

The 16-year-old reported that she had been sexually battered three times by the same man between August 27 and September 30. After the third incident, the girl took a photo of the man and reported the crime to the Sheriff’s Transit Services Bureau.

According to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) Special Victims Bureau detectives, the assaults occurred on Metro bus line #761, “in the vicinity of Van Nuys Blvd/Vanowen St. and Van Nuys Blvd/Burbank Blvd,” stated the press release.

The girl told authorities that “the suspect would board the bus, sit next to her, cover himself in part with a sweater and then touch her,” according to the release.

Majdeddin Nahvi, a 59-year-old transient living in Canoga Park, was taken into custody on Tuesday, October 8, by officers with the LAPD Van Nuys Division bike team after the Sheriff’s Special Victims Bureau released a crime bulletin with the suspect’s photo. Nahvi was later identified by the victim.

The victim described Nahvi as a male white/Hispanic or Middle Eastern, [with] black hair and brown eyes, [and] 5’8 and 140 lbs.

Nahvi was booked on two misdemeanor counts of sexual battery and one count of annoying or molesting a child. At his arraignment, a total of five misdemeanor counts were filed and Nahvi remains in custody with his bail set for $100,000.

The LASD is asking for the public’s help in identifying other potential victims. Anyone with information has been asked to contact the LASD Special Victims Bureau at 562-946-7960 or via email at Specialvictims@lasd.org. Anonymous calls can be directed to 800-222-8477 and texts can be sent to 274637 with “TIPLA” at the beginning.
