STUDIO CITY—Every Sunday, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Studio City farmers market at Ventura Place, between Laurel Canyon Blvd. and Radford Avenue is available to the public. Since 1998, the weekly market has been organized by the Studio City Residents Association and the Studio City Chamber of Commerce.

With more than 70 vendors, the market provides a great variety of food for their patrons, and is kid-friendly as well, having a kids’ area and booths with balloons, face painting and temporary tattoos. In fact, it was voted the Most Kid Friendly Farmers Market by Los Angeles Magazine and was Nickelodeon’s 2009 Parents’ Pick Winner. The Studio City Farmers Market website encourages parents, “If you have little ones don’t forget to check out the pony rides, petting zoo, train ride and bouncy slide.” There is even a “Petopia” booth to care for those who have pets while they enjoy the market.

Some of the produce that may be found at the Studio City Farmers Market includes organic cheese, hydroponic Japanese tomatoes, Persian cucumbers, gourmet mushrooms, pomegranate juice, smoked tuna and much more. Not to mention the baked goods, beverages and prepackaged food vendors. There are also vendors with ready-cooked food such as burritos, crepes, pizza, hot dogs, and even Indian cuisine.

Aside from garnering income for local farmers and artisans, the market also contributes a percentage of its funds towards different charities and organizations each year. The website states, “This year’s Studio City Farmers Market Charity of the Year is the Turning Pages Foundation, an organization founded by three local teachers in an effort to fill the holes in summer and after school programs left by severe cuts in public school funding.”

The Studio City Farmers Market has a 4-star rating on Yelp, and a 4.5 star rating on Foursquare. Guests may park for free at CBS Studios off Radford Ave. or the Chase Bank parking lot. For more information, visit http://www.studiocityfarmersmarket.com/.
