STUDIO CITY—On Friday, March 22, Jason Kies was arrested in La Crescenta after a series of alleged kidnapping attempts that day.
Kies, 37, was booked on eight felony counts, including two separate incidents of attempting to force two women in his car. Both women fought back and fled the scene.
The first incident occurred earlier in the day when Kies reportedly tried to force the first victim into his GMC SUV on Ben Avenue between Hesby Street and Addison Street. Following this, Kies was said to have gotten into a scuffle with a Marshall’s Department Store security guard in Studio City when he was caught trying to steal women’s lingerie.
As he fled the scene, witnesses took down Kies’s license plate number.
At around 1 p.m., Kies allegedly assaulted a female jogger at Tujunga Avenue and Sarah Street in Valley Village, again trying to force the victim into his car. The jogger resisted Kies and managed to escape.
“There’s a lot of things that happened that went right for the victims,” said Capt. Justin Eisenberg of the North Hollywood Community Police Station at a press conference held Tuesday, March 26. “Each one of his victims refused to surrender.”
At around 6 p.m., robbery homicide division detectives located Kies in La Crescenta and arrested him when he reportedly began to follow a lone female jogger on a side street close to the 210 Freeway.
Lt. Alan Hamilton of the North Hollywood Community Police Station said there could be another potential kidnapping victim who has escaped and he urges her to come forward.
According to Hamilton, Kies could have a history of attempted kidnapping, including that of an elementary school-aged girl in the San Fernando Valley.
Kies’s bail is set at $4 million.
