The 14th Annual Walk/Run For Awareness
Posted by Cassie Day on Aug 27, 2012 - 2:51:09 PM

STUDIO CITY—Come show your support for those diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer on Sunday, September 9, by participating in the 14th Annual Walk/Run for Awareness and Hope in Studio City. Ovarian cancer is the fifth most common cancer among women, causing more deaths than other female reproductive cancers.

Three out of four women with ovarian cancer survive one year after being diagnosed. Women 55 years and older are at a higher risk. There is little known about prevention for ovarian cancer and surgery is currently the only treatment.

Let’s raise awareness as a community by supporting those in need of being educated, supported, and treated. A survivor looking to assist other women who had been diagnosed created the Ovarian Cancer Walk/Run; she wanted to do this through funding research and aid. Early detection methods and a form of treatment are in great need of finding.

The Ovarian Cancer Coalition of Greater California focuses on the Los Angeles County to educate the community and to conduct research. All proceeds fund groups that assist women with ovarian cancer such as Valley Women’s Clinic, USC Norris Ovarian Cancer Research, Cedars Sinai Ovarian Cancer Research, and UCLA’s Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center: Ovarian Research.

The event will take place at the CBS Studio Center, Studio City on 4024 Radford Avenue. There will be a 10K run, 5K run, 5K walk, 1K walk, Kiddie K and health fair. Check-in and registration begins at 7 a.m., to save on fees sign up early online. Free goodie bags and t-shirts will be given to all that participate. For more information call (818) 985-0288 or email OvarianCA@sbcglobal.net.

Volunteers will be needed to make this event a success. There are over 100 positions that need to be filled for race registration, event traffic control, water station monitors, mile timers, communications, distributors, setting up, awards presentation and press operations. The Volunteer Coordinator is Greer Sanders, to help call (818) 985-0288.
