Annual Share The Road Ride Coming
Posted by Melissa Simon on Oct 1, 2013 - 2:37:19 PM

TOPANGA CANYON—On Saturday, October 5, bicyclists can take part in the 4th Annual Share the Road Ride in Simi Valley, with several different rides available.

“Share the Road Ride will be spreading the message about the need to safely share the road, as well as honoring the memories of cyclists who have lost their lives in traffic related accidents,” the event page reads.

To honor the lives lost, the Memorial Miles Dedication will create large photo boards for each honored cyclist that includes their photo, birth and death dates and a personal message from the family. The boards will then be displayed along the 25-mile city tour.

Participants have the option of riding in one of the Century rides (either the challenge or bypass route), the Half Century or the 25-mile city tour.

According to the website, the Century challenge ride goes around Simi Valley and into the neighboring community of Moorpark and goes through avocado and citrus groves. The route also includes a ride through Balcom Canyon and the Grimes Canyon Grade. The Century bypass ride excludes the Balcom Canyon and the Grimes Canyon Grade.

The Half Century ride goes through the hills of Simi Valley and Moorpark and the 25-mile City Tour stays in Simi Valley.

All of the rides will begin and end at the DMV at 3855 Alamo Street. The start times are as follows:

· Century Challenge (including the Bypass): 7 a.m.

· Half Century: 9 a.m.

· 25-mile City Tour: 11 a.m.

At the end of the ride, there will be a Bike Expo featuring a free BBQ lunch for riders, music, vendors and prize giveaways.

Share the Road costs $50 per rider and $60 per tandem rider before registration day and $60 per rider and $70 per tandem on the day of registration. All minors must be accompanied by an adult.

The event page recommends participants register on October 4 between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. in the parking lot across from the DMV on Alamo Street by signing the ride waiver, picking up a rider number, getting a goody bag and buying tickets for the raffle
