TOPANGA CANYON—The 40th annual Topanga Days Country Fair took place this past Memorial Day weekend, bringing out many residents to celebrate the yearly event. The fair which spanned the entire three-day weekend attracted over 2,000 attendees each day.

The festival took place on 12 acres of land in Topanga Canyon which overlooks San Fernando Valley. Many attendees described the event as a laidback festival full of “peace and love.” Actress and fellow Topanga Canyon resident, Cloris Leachman, came out for the event’s parade on Memorial Day.

The three-day fair included food, games, contemporary dance, and many other activities with all ages in attendance. Some activities in the festival were potato sack races and pie eating contests. In addition to activities for attendees, there were also live bands performing throughout the weekend, ranging in a variety of genres including Rock, Country, Folk, and Irish.

The Topanga Community Club was founded in 1949 and was originally known as the Topanga Woman’s Club. Its sole purpose was to serve as a community center for people of all ages to be able to have a place they could go and enjoy whatever hobbies they had. After a 12-acre lot was given to the Community Club in 1950, owners built the shell of what is now the Community House.

In the 1960s, the Strawberry Festival began at the Community House and this eventually evolved into what is now the Topanga Days Country Fair, a fundraiser that has been held every year for the past 40 years and attracts many Topanga Canyon Residents.
