Topanga Canyon Boulevard and PCH.
The accident is still being investigated. The bicyclist, Samuel Martinez, was said to have rode through a red light at an intersection where a pickup truck hit him. The driver remained at the scene for questioning.
Martinez was traveling westbound on Lassen around 11:40 p.m. where he was struck.
"Beautiful Memorial Needed for Sammy Martinez" campaign.
Family members of
Martinez are reaching out the public for funding for his service. His sister writes, “This accident is still under investigation. It is not certain whether or not my brother ran the light. But if he did then the driver did as well. What is for sure was that my brother was using the crosswalk.”
According to Martinez’s sister Amelia Daniel’s claims on her fundraising campaign titled “Beautiful Memorial Needed for Sammy Martinez,” he was a family man who leaves behind a 22 year-old daughter and two sons, ages 14 and 9. The site has raised $810, which is 16% of their $5,000 goal. The campaign for
Martinez on fundrazr.com started on July 8.
The Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) states their biking rules are provided to “help bicyclists understand how to ride safely and legally on public roads, parking, and on bikeways within the State of
California and the City of
Los Angeles.” For more information on biking regulations see the LADOT website.
