Posted by Krystle Hudson on Oct 24, 2011 - 11:59:01 AM

TOPANGA CANYON—Two southbound lanes and one northbound lane shut down on Thursday, October 21 after a multi-car crash, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The closing of the lanes lasted approximately two hours. The California Highway Patrol gave a Sig Alert, which is an announcement for unplanned lane closures lasting more than 30 minutes, for the highway during rush hour shortly after 5 p.m.

According to reports from the Los Angeles Fire Department, six people were injured involving the multi-car head-on collision. The traffic traveling on the northbound direction on the PCH was merged into one lane while the other lane traveling southbound was used to get around the incident. Though all lanes were reported to be re-opened at about 6:20 p.m., traffic was still backed up.

Captain Perez of the LAFD Fire Station 23 confirmed six people were taken to nearby hospitals while four of those victims had serious injuries. Perez also mentioned one person had to be lifted out of their vehicle with the "Jaws Of Life." The California Highway Patrol states that the incident is currently undergoing further investigation.

A spokesperson from the CHP stated that witnesses reported three cars as having been involved in the multi-car crash and that there are no further details as of the moment, as the case is still pending investigation.
