What began as a structure fire around 3 p.m. quickly turned into a brush fire when flames spread from a burning mobile home to the surrounding brush. Officials said that the mobile home was fully engulfed in flames before the fire spread, and that the cause of the fire was under investigation.
According to Capt. Lee Thompson of the L.A. County Fire Department, the fire burned a quarter of an acre before it was extinguished.
It was a combined effort to contain the blaze. Citizens assisted firefighters by running a hose from a nearby fire hydrant down a steep hill, allowing firefighters better access to the flames.
The location of the mobile home against the steep hillside generated further difficulty for firefighters when helicopters dispatched to the scene were having trouble dropping water on the fire because of the steep terrain.
Within a couple hours, the fire was under control. No injuries were reported.
