WEST HOLLYWOOD—There will be checkpoints taking place on Friday, December 28. The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department announced their attempt to hunt for people under the influence with or without licenses. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department hopes with issuing this DUI checkpoint will discourage people from drinking and driving at the same time.
The DUI/CDL checkpoints for tomorrow have been determined on DUI-related motion in the city. There are no specific locations on where they will be taking place, but they will begin at 7 p.m. Friday and will conclude at 3 a.m. on Saturday. There will be checks on all vehicles in those areas, and drivers who are found to be under the influence of drugs, alcohol or both will be arrested. These types of operations are funded by the
California Office of Traffic Safety Grant http://www.ots.ca.gov/, through the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration http://www.nhtsa.gov/.
According to the sheriff’s department, traffic fatalities have decreased by 23 percent from 3,995 in the year 2007 to 3,081 in 2009, in
California. Deaths from DUI’s have decreased a total of 16 percent, from 1,132 in 2007 to 950 in 2009.
