Zito was released from the hospital the following day after undergoing MRI examinations. He was the starting pitcher against the Los Angeles Dodgers on April 3, despite the accident. Zito’s publicist, Kathy Jacobson, made a statement on her Twitter page on Sunday, writing, “Barry Zito pitches 2night after being in a serious car accident. Many lessons of life 2 b learned from this man. #SFGiants#heartofachampion.”Although the game ended with a 7-5 Dodger victory, Zito managed three runs and three hits in six innings throughout the game.
Fans of Zito continued to leave words of comfort on his Facebook page during the time he was hospitalized.
The left-handed pitcher, whose curveball was voted best in the major league in an ESPN Player Poll, is scheduled to continue playing this season.
