WEST HOLLYWOOD—An investigation is underway after a dead body was found in a vehicle in the Fairfax District near West Hollywood on the morning of Saturday, June 9, according to information from the Los Angeles Police Department blog.
At approximately 11 a.m., a pedestrian observed what appeared to be a dead body inside a Cadillac Escalade in the area of Willoughby Avenue and Genesee Avenue. After the pedestrian contacted police, officers arrived and confirmed a deceased person was in the vehicle. Residents in the area reported they noticed the vehicle had been in the same spot for the last few days.
The body has been identified as that of John Steven Simmons and had been decomposing due to it being left in the back of the vehicle for about two weeks. Reports indicate Simmons is believed to have died from a gunshot to his stomach.
West Bureau Homicide investigators now know that the Escalade belonged to Simmons' step-brother Jacob Anthonisen who has since disappeared. Anthonisen, who is now considered a "person of interest" in the case, served nearly two years of a three year drug possession sentence in Arizona.
