Lisa Vanderpump Sued Over NightClub
Posted by Nashfa Hawwa on Aug 15, 2013 - 2:16:43 PM

—The star of “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” Lisa Vanderpump and her husband Ken Todd were named in a $ 4 million fraud lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court.

The lawsuit concerns a dispute over a lease for LULU Restaurant Group LLC, a gay-oriented, sports-themed restaurant and nightclub in West Hollywood.

The lawsuit was filed by entrepreneurs Ryan Allen Carrillo and Andrew Gruver who accused Vanderpump, her husband, as well as businessmen Freddy Braidy, Edward Frumkes and Elie Samaha of “fiduciary duty, constructive fraud, breach of contract, misrepresentation deceit, dissolution and unfair competition” among fourteen other offenses according to court documents obtained online by RadarOnline.

According to case number BC518149, released on August 14, the defendant Samaha, a film producer and restaurant owner had liked the plaintiffs’ “unique concept” for a gay-oriented, sports-themed restaurant and nightclub in West Hollywood that they intended to call Bar Varsity.

In 2009, Samaha had offered to assist the plaintiffs’ in leasing space at a discount rate at the Java Detour location at 8948 Santa Monica Blvd. as he was the owner of the master lease of the location. He offered to invest $500,000 to the project so that Carrillo and Gruver could build their idea. The court document also states that Samaha claimed he told the Plaintiffs that he wanted to be partners with Carrillo and Gruver and that he was interested in developing the Java Detour location to turn it into a “restaurant and nightclub entertainment centre.”

According to the complaint, Carrillo and Gruver quit their jobs as at the Abbey restaurant in West Hollywood as general manager and promotions manager at the Abbey’s parent company SEB, respectively.

After countless hours poring over the project, meeting with architects, going through the permitting process and making sure they have met the requirements of the city of West Hollywood, the Plaintiffs discovered that Samaha was working on another project with the name “Mykonos” with Vanderpump’s husband and another individual called Alison Melnick that was supposed to occupy the same location on Java Detour Location as Bar Varsity.

Samaha refused to invest the promised $500,000 and evaded out of the project. In February, Gruver and Carrillo learnt that the Java Detour location had a sign on it saying P.U.M.P Lounge, and that it had been leased to Lisa Vanderpump and Ken Todd.

The complaint states plaintiffs Gruver and Carrillo suffered insurmountable loss to their reputations, jobs, money, salaries and loss of prospective relationships and opportunities amounting to $ 4 million. Vanderpump, 52, and husband Ken are specifically mentioned in the tenth and eleventh clause, which accuses them of “intentional interference with contractual relations” and “intentional interference with prospective economic relations.” The court document stated that their conduct was a substantial factor in causing them “harm.”

The statement claims that the Vanderpump defendants intentionally disrupted the performance of the agreement with Samaha and the plaintiffs, and “engaged in wrongful conduct to disrupt the relationship including, but not limited to, the misappropriation of the plaintiffs’ work conduct such as permits, plans, designs, etc. obtained by the plaintiffs’ for Bar Varsity.” A jury trial has been demanded regarding the case.
