MTA Bus Hits 2 Pedestrians In West Hollywood

WEST HOLLYWOOD—One man was killed and another was injured after they were hit by an MTA bus in West Hollywood on Monday, February 4.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:40 p.m. when two men were crossing the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and Palm Avenue. The bus driver informed authorities that he was driving the bus back to the depot at the end of his shift when he hit the pedestrians.
Both men were transported to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where one of the unidentified victims, who was 81 years old, died. The other man, 50, remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Authorities conducted a routine toxicology test in order to determine whether or not the bus driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol while driving. The results of the test have not been released.
A one-mile stretch of Santa Monica Boulevard was closed due to the accident between San Vicente Boulevard and Hancock Avenue. The roads did not reopen until 6 a.m. Tuesday morning.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation and as of press time it is unknown if the driver will be cited. No passengers were on board the bus at the time of the accident.
