WEST HOLLYWOOD—This Saturday, December 15, Mayor of West Hollywood Jeffry Prang along with a number of other hosts will be celebrating LAUSD Board Member Steve Zimmer for his continued work to protect LGBT youth at LAUSD ( Los Angeles Unified School District) schools.

Joining the mayor, hosts Fred Mariscal, Michael Lolrge, Norman Chramoff, Ed Buck and Ari Ruiz will be applauding Zimmer on his fight to protect and support Project 10, a non profit organization founded in 1986 that provides funding for projects and programs that support lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning queer youth.

Zimmer has received various awards over the years for his active role in the community, including Angels Over Los Angeles Award for Los Angeles' Commission of Children, Youth and Their Families in 1998, Canno Award from El Centro del Pueblo in 1999, and the Jackie Goldberg Public Service Award from the Lacer Foundation in 2003. The District 4 LAUSD Board of Education member was elected in 2009, and is seeking re-election in 2013.

In September, the seven-member LAUSD School Board passed the LGBT and Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Anti-Bullying Resolution in response to the state law, SB48 and Fair Education Act that passed in July. The Fair (Fair, Accurate, Inclusion, and Respectful) Education Act requires that schools include the contributions of Americans who are gay, African American, Latino, Asian-Pacific Islander, female, or disabled in their social studies curriculum. Zimmer co-sponsored LGBT Resolution that takes extra steps to ensure safety for LGBT students.

The ceremony will be held from 4:00-5:00 p.m. on Saturday at the home of Fred Mariscal and Michael Walkoski at 512 N. Windsor Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90004. If interested in being on the invitation, e-mail Ari Ruiz at ari.ruizos@gmail.com.
