WEST HOLLYWOOD—On Tuesday, September 25, construction began for the two rainbow crosswalks in West Hollywood on the intersection of Santa Monica and San Vicente Boulevard. The intersection is the entrance to the city’s PRIDE festival.

The city has officially been deemed the LGBT tourist destination, as a statement of homosexual, bisexual, and transgender acceptance. Lucas John, a West Hollywood resident, originally suggested the idea.

Shariden Design Asphalt of Alpine will install the two brick rainbow crosswalks with a skid-resistant thermoplastic pavement markings and new asphalt will be given. Construction will be conducted at times of low automobile traffic and pedestrian crossing. The installation will cost close to $70,000.

West Hollywood’s city council had temporarily installed the rainbow crosswalks last June for Gay Pride month, which had cost $13,000. On August 20, the permanent installation was passed through West Hollywood’s city council.
