WEST HOLLYWOOD—West Hollywood is shutting down part of the city on Friday, December 21 for a "survival" block party in response to the implication that it is the day the Earth will end.

The event will close Larrabee Street and Santa Monica Boulevard from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. with a countdown planned at 9:12 p.m. The block party will include Mayan dancers, comedians and various businesses in the area will have special promotions related to the event. Eleven Restaurant & Nightclub will provide customers with survivor cocktails such as "The Earthquake," "The Tsunami" and "The Volcano."
Other participating businesses include the Abbey Food & Bar, Block Party WeHo, Fiesta Cantina, Mickey’s West Hollywood, Revolver Video Bar and Yogurt Stop. The event is co-sponsored by the City of West Hollywood, West Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and Visit West Hollywood.
“This falls in the category of 'only in West Hollywood,' said Councilmember John Duran in a press release. “Whether December 21st marks the end of the world, the beginning of new human consciousness or just another Friday night – West Hollywood is always there for a cheeky moment and a reason to celebrate."
