Water Main Break, Power Outages

WEST HOLLYWOOD/HOLLYWOOD—The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power reported recent water and electricity troubles
that occurred in multiple areas, including Hollywood and West Hollywood.
The water-related incident was reported on November 22, when a 12-inch water main pipe ruptured at approximately 11:30 p.m.
on the 1100th block of Formosa Avenue.
Its cause unknown, the break flooded an underground parking garage in about six feet of water.
Though no damage was caused to any residences in the area, several vehicles were affected, including a Volkswagen, a Porsche and an SUV. The amount of water
measured at an estimate of about 30,000 gallons.
Officials with the Los Angeles Fire Department and Los Angeles Department of Water and Power worked throughout the night to resolve the issue, pumping water out of the garage and repairing the pipe. Water services were restored to residents at about 9:10 a.m., according to L.A.D.W.P.
The second incident, which waspower-related
, was reported by L.A.D.W.P. on November 30, when intense winds disrupted electrical services to about 50,000 customers in multiple areas, including Hollywood.
The outage occurred shortly after 7:00 p.m. at an L.A.D.W.P. receiving station, affecting services to about 56,000 customers on L.A.’s Westside, including L.A.X terminals and areas in Playa Del Rey, Del Rey, Westchester, Venice and Hollywood.
Crews are working constantly in “dangerous high wind conditions” to restore power to the affected customers, according to L.A.D.W.P.
