West Hollywood HIV/AIDS Forum
Posted by Michael Lambrose on Nov 13, 2012 - 1:52:40 PM

WEST HOLLYWOOD—The forum “HIV Game Change 2012 ”“ "The State of HIV/AIDS in West Hollywood” will be hosted by the city of West Hollywood on Thursday, November 15 from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.  The event will take place in the Community Room at the West Hollywood Library at 625 N. San Vicente Blvd.

The goal of the forum is to inform residents of West Hollywood, especially the city’s gay male population.  According to West Hollywood Councilmember John D’Amico, the gay male demographic constitutes over 40 percent of the city’s population, and according to councilmember D’Amico, many of these individuals are living with HIV.  He also contends that this forum is essential given the ever-changing issues surrounding the disease.

The speakers at the forum will be experts on issues surrounding HIV/AIDS such as David Evans, Director of Research Advocacy for HIV and Hepatitis C Policy and Dr. Tony Mills, M.D., an HIV Specialist.

Some of the issues being discussed will include treatment as prevention, HIV criminalization (when one partner knowingly transmits the disease to another through sex), the stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS and harm reduction.  Experts will also discuss how The Affordable Care Act will affect an individual’s access to treatment for the disease.

Admission will be free, and the event is open to the public.
