City Seeks Stricter Firearms Regulations

WEST HOLLYWOOD— On Monday, December 17, the West Hollywood City Council asked lawmakers both state and federal, for the prohibition of assault weapons and to improve the already existent gun-control regulations.

MayorProTemporeAbbeLand stated his intention on assault weapons. His hope is that people understand that due to the recent tragedies it is important to work towards banning certain weapons. Senator Dianne Fienstein’s federal assault weapons ban legislation received a non-renewal vote in 2004, after becoming a law in 1994. On Sunday, December 16, Senator Fienstein indicated she would prioritize the ban for the January congressional session.
MayorLand and Councilman John Heilman agreed on the necessity to have mental health care at the service of people in need.West Hollywood is known for its “extensive history of passing resolutions in support of gun control legislation, like the federal assault weapons ban, adopting decisions in support of restricting the right of use with firearms, and improving the present gun control regulations.
