West Hollywood's City Candidate Starts Survey
Posted by Jennifer Alcaraz on Dec 19, 2012 - 6:51:34 PM

WEST HOLLYWOOD—Candidate for city council Christopher T. Landavazo has started an online questionnaire for city residents, aimed at gathering information on the specific concerns the community has.

The 37-year-old Deputy Sheriff and Educator’s survey focuses on ten issues he wants to address if elected. People who participate in the survey, will be able to rank from one to ten (one being the most important and ten least important) on the issues Landavazo is focusing on. The categories provided on the survey include:

  • Civic Engagement/Civic Impact Zones
  • Public Safety
  • Public Transparency
  • Economic Development
  • Affordable Housing
  • Implementation of Smart Growth Principles
  • Health and Wellness and Social Services
  • Transportation, Traffic and Parking
  • Going Green
  • Term Limits

Landavazo stated that the mission of the survey is to engage West Hollywood residents in decision-making processes, as well as to hear and find a solution to their needs. He has initiated the first of his platforms, Civic Engagement and Civic Impact Zones and is attempting to organize the “West Hollywood Civic Engagement Team,” consisting of members from the community and the city government body.

In addition to the group, Landavazo intends to work on the expansion of the NIXLE electronic notification system to inform West Hollywood residents of events and emergency alerts. Currently, the use of NIXLE has been in use by public safety companies around the country. If it is implemented the medium cost would be $2,790 per annum.

Christopher T. Landavazo served for eight years in the United States Navy as an Air Traffic Controller. He is also an 11-year law enforcement veteran and a five-year member of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Landavazo holds an Executive Master of Leadership from the University of Southern California, in addition to a certificate in public management from USC’s School of Policy, Planning and Development. He currently serves as an Assistance Professor of Criminal Justice at the University of Phoenix, Southern California Campus.
