Metro announced on their website that residents in the surrounding areas should expect heavy delays for the President's Day weekend due to partial daytime closures and full nighttime closures to continue construction on the Sepulveda Pass Improvement Project.
The partial daytime closure will have two of the five northbound lanes open, with the
Moraga Drive on-ramp,
Getty Center Drive on-ramp and the
Skirball Center Drive off-ramp closed during the day, according to Metro. The
Skirball Center Drive on-ramp will be open during that time as well, but it will be subject to closure. All on- and off-ramps in that 5.6-mile-long stretch, however, will be closed at night in addition to the closure of all five northbound lanes.
Other closures will be seen at the I-10 connectors from both west and east to the north 405, but the 101 connectors from north and south will remain open to both directions of the 405.
The closures will begin on February 14 at 10:00 p.m. and end on February 18 at 6:00 a.m. The full nighttime closures for that weekend will be on February 14 from 1:00 to 6:00 a.m., February 15 from 2:00 to 7:00 a.m., February 16 from midnight to 5:00 a.m. and February 17 from midnight to 6:00 a.m. The reason given by Metro for the long closure is to avoid several planned 55-hour delays.
Metro, in conjunction with Caltrans and the Los Angeles Department of Transportation, advises that residents refrain from being in the area at the time of the closures, as heavy traffic should be expected for the duration. For real-time updates of the traffic in the area, residents can call 511 and say “Jamzilla,” or they can visit go511.com. For the opportunity to speak with Metro about the closures, people can go to Reddit for a live Q & A concerning the closure. The Q & A will go from noon to 1:00 p.m. on February 7 at http://www.reddit.com/r/MetroLosAngeles.
