WESTWOOD—Noah Allen, a former Harvard basketball recruit, has verbally committed to UCLA for the 2013-2014 basketball season, reports indicate.  Allen, a small forward, had previously pledged to play for the Crimson, but withdrew amid concerns over financial aid.

Allen confirmed the news on his Twitter page with this tweet: “Committed to be a UCLA  Bruin! Can’t wait to get down to Westwood and put in this work.”

The 6 foot 6 Palma High School senior is the third commitment for UCLA Coach Ben Howland’s 2013 recruiting class.  Allen joins Allerick Freeman, who expressed his desire to play for the Bruins on September 8.  Washington-native Zach LeVine is also part of the recruitment class.

Allen, who was considering offers from Northwestern, Colorado, San Diego State, Washington State and other Division 1 schools, opted to play for Howland after making an official visit to Westwood one weekend.

As a junior last season for Palma High School, the Salinas, California native averaged 15 points and averaged 23 or more points in six of his last eight games.

While all three of UCLA’s commitments play the perimeter, Howland is expected to make a late push for shooting guard Isaac Hamilton.  The Bellflower, California native reportedly added UCLA to his final list.
