WESTWOOD—Due to wet weather the construction on Sepulveda Boulevard has been delayed which initially was meant to end on Monday, December 3. The reconstructing and widening for Sepulveda Boulevard has been extended until Thursday, December 6.
Sepulveda Boulevard will be widened and moved to build a new carpool lane.
The affected area is between Montana Avenue and Church Lane. The lanes will be reduced to only one in each direction from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and it will be closed completely overnight. Metro has warned neighbors that dump trucks and excavation equipment will be used during the overnight hours, thus, some vibrations may occur.
Traffic control officers will be at key intersection, such as Sunset Boulevard and Barrington Avenue, during peak hours in order to alleviate the impact. The construction is part of a $1 billion 405 Freeway widening project which resulted in the two Carmageddon closures of the freeway.
Road crews are working on smoothing out the difference between the new roadway and the old one. The new Sepulveda alignment goes through a hill east of the freeway where a large retaining wall was built.
By moving Sepulveda to the east and changing its grade, a new carpool lane and auxiliary exit lane will be able to be installed on the northbound 405. Workers will begin to build the new northbound lanes once Sepulveda has been relocated. The project is expected to be complete by 2013.
