Elementary School Teacher Stabs Wife

WESTWOOD—According to the Los Angeles Country District Attorney’s Office, a Los Angeles Unified Elementary School teacher has been charged for fatally stabbing his estranged wife, Michelle Kane, 43, in her West Hills home.

Michael Rodney Kane, 46, was arrested in San Bernardino Country on Monday, June 17 after a two day man-hunt after he had fled the scene of crime on Saturday, June 15.


On Friday, June 14, Kane who had a restraining order against him showed up at his wife’s home and broke windows on the front door and garage. His wife fled to her friend, Howard Levin’s home in West Hills with her two children, after informing the police, according to the reports.


The suspect allegedly tracked her down to the home in 7100 block of Deveron Ridge Road and confronted his wife. He chased her down the street before fatally stabbing her multiple times. He has also been charged with stabbing Levin who had tried to protect the victim.


Kane is being charged with the murder of his wife, one count of first-degree burglary with a person present, one count of assault with a deadly weapon and one count of making threats.


If convicted, Kane will face life in prison. Prosecutors have currently requested for him to be kept without bail.  Michael Kane is a graduate of UCLA, and he began working for the Los Angeles Unified School District as a substitute teacher in 1997. He was hired a year later as a full-time teacher, and taught at Carthay Center and Bassett Street Elementary schools before being assigned to Nestle Avenue Elementary School in 2008.
