WESTWOOD—On November 11, in the early hours of the morning, a
man driving down Sunset Boulevard died after crashing his car into a palm tree,
according to authorities. It is not known at this time what caused the fatal
crash.
The incident occurred on the 10800 block of Sunset Boulevard close to
the intersection of Bellagio Road at about 3:45 a.m., according Sgt. Brunson
of LAPD’s West Los Angeles Station. The crash was located not far from the UCLA campus.
It was reported by the Bel-Air Association Blog that the yet-unidentified victim was driving his vehicle eastbound when his car darted over
the lanes of traffic and his vehicle crashed into a tree on the opposite side
of the road. At present, the victim’s name is being withheld as his next of kin
has yet to be notified. According to reports, fire captain Craig Neilsan
informed a camera crew that a man in his 30s, driving a Toyota Corolla, crashed
into a palm tree which exploded into flames, killing him on impact.
According to Sgt. Brunson, the death investigation led to
the shutting down of Sunset Boulevard from Bellagio Road to Westwood Plaza in all
directions until about 8 in the morning.
