Neighborhood Plane Crash

WESTWOOD—A
single-engine Cessna crashed Friday, August 10, as it was returning to Santa
Monica Airport that night, leaving one person dead.

Spokespersons for the
Federal Aviation Administration said the pilot declared an emergency situation
for unknown reasons around 6:10 p.m. Shortly
thereafter, the plane went down approximately three miles northeast of the
airport, near the 2100 block of South Glendon Avenue.
The Los Angeles
Police Department blocked off the area between La Grange and Mississippi
Avenues and those with homes in the area were escorted by police.
Los Angeles Fire
Department said there was no damage to any homes from the blaze and no injuries.
The victim and pilot,
Sean McMillan, was 70 years old. No other victims were reported.
