WESTWOOD/PACIFIC PALISADES—Police announced on Thursday, September 27, that the human remains that were found by hikers in Pacific Palisades last weekend were those of a UCLA student gone missing in the summer.

According to the Los Angeles County coroner's office, David John Goeser, died of a self-inflicted gun shot wound.
The 22-year-old was a senior English major who was last seen by his roommates on July 22 in the 1000 block of Roebling Avenue in Westwood. His family grew worried when they had not heard from Goeser in a week and couldn't locate him at his house. He left his cell phone, credit cards, and identification at his home. According to a flier on his family's Facebook page, Goeser took medication and was described as struggling with depression at the time of his disappearance.
Goeser's 2001 white, four-door Toyota Corolla was found by authorities on July 25 in Pacific Palisades. However, it wasn't until Saturday, September 22 at 11 a.m. that hikers found his skull, torso, and bones near where his car was found.
"While we grieve this tremendous loss, we are immensely grateful for the
love and support of all who helped us in our search," his parents
wrote on the "Find David Goeser" Facebook page. "We would ask that you continue to respect the family's privacy at this
time, and we thank you for your ongoing prayers and support. You have
been a true gift."
A memorial service is scheduled to take place on October 6 at Calvary Community Church in Westlake Village. More information will be posted via Facebook at a later date.
