WESTWOOD—As of Monday, November 26, the Sepulveda Pass will cause traffic and delay due to the $1 billion 405 Freeway widening project that began in January. It is a part of the Carmageddon project which is due for completion by 2013.
Sepulveda Boulevard will be widened and moved to build a new carpool lane.
Sepulveda Boulevard will be affected in both directions between Montana Avenue and Church Lane. The closures begin at 9 a.m. Monday and will continue through next week on Monday, December 3. That area of Sepulveda is to be taken down to only one lane in each direction during the day and will be completely closed during 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.
Road crews will be working in the area to smooth the grade difference between the new roadway and the old one. The new Sepulveda Boulevard goes through a hill east of the freeway where a retaining wall was built.
Moving the Sepulveda to the east and changing its grade will allow a new ten-mile carpool lane and auxiliary exit lanes on the northbound 405 to become possible. Workers will build the new northbound lanes once Sepulveda is relocated.
